Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning

The Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (Norwegian: Direktoratet for samfunnssikkerhet og beredskap, DSB) is a Norwegian government agency under the Minister of Justice and the Police. DSB's purpose is to help prevent loss of life and protect the health, environment, important social functions and property in connection with accidents, disasters and other incidents in peace, crisis and war. Civil defence is subject to the DSB.
The Directorates responsibilities include prevention, crisis management, studies and analysis, civil-military cooperation, training and evaluation and supervision.
The Directorate is based in Tønsberg, plus 20 civil defence districts, five civil defence camps, five schools and five regional offices for electrical inspections. DSB has about 670 employees, of which about 240 are based at the new main office in Tønsberg. DSB also has operational responsibility for the Government's central plant in Hole in Buskerud, a war headquarters for the government.
